Fanboy Friday: “Space and Time” T-shirt

Friday, December 31st, 2010

This shirt has a great design done by artist Justin White, who submitted it to Threadless. First, the overall use of colors and the negative space of the purple shirt is done flawlessly, and for some reason reminds me of the tropical location advertisements from the 1920’s and 30’s. I love how the guy riding the dinosaur at the top bleeds right in from the shirt to the design. The shades of purples and pinks (and is that periwinkle i see there?) give it just enough life and eye-catching contrast to not take away from everything else that’s going on. Speaking of which, i love how you can see skyscrapers being flooded, along with what looks like a sinking colonial ship in the same body of water. The traveler will be the talk of the town when he brings back his Mummy souvenir and robot friend! At the top of the rock formation stands a complex looking telephone booth, which we can only assume is the Time Machine.

Open Letter to Mr. Snow Miser (part deux)

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Dear Mr. Snow Miser,

I know we’ve already sent a letter to you and your brother, but we here at headquarters have officially been snowed into our offices. What happened? Did you get another lame sweater vest and decide to take it out on the tri-state area? Did your brother forget to buy you the Murder, She Wrote series like you had asked? Or maybe you save your biggest dastardly deed until directly after christmas, so Santa would forget by the time next Christmas rolls around, the same way the Oscars pay no attention to movies that come out at the beginning of the year.

In any case, the amount of snow you’ve cast on New Jersey is enough to make the abominable snowman blush, enough to make Frosty dream of space heaters. But as angry as we all are, I should secretly thank you for giving me an excuse to stay indoors and play video games without judgement.

Sincerely,
People Like Me!

Fanboy Friday: Batman All View Hoodie

Friday, December 24th, 2010

All I want for Christmas is this hoodie.

In the front, the classic Bat Symbol made famous in the 1990’s, printed on a Bat-blue sweater. This piece of clothing’s wow factor comes when you get a look at the sides of the hood itself. On one side, Batman’s face is burning a whole right through you as he watches you steal that old lady’s purse. On the other side of the hood, you can see the Caped Crusader looking out into the sky. Maybe the Bat Signal is in the air? Or possibly the smell of cheeseburgers.

Subtle, simple, and super clever.

Open Letter to Freakazoid!

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Oh Dear Freakazoid!,

Where to begin? Your origins as the nerdy Dexter Douglas, who became empowered with the trivial information that is the Internet, gave the geeks sitting at home a bit of hope. Not only could their eyesight worsen by spending long hours at the computer, but they could also be turned into a super hero with Bride of Frankenstein hair. Lets not forget the super-cool Freakmobile! and your pets Foamy and Mr. Chubbikins are the poster children for dysfunctional America. Your gallery of Rogues were amazing, from Dr. Mystico (voiced by Tim Curry), Armando Guitierrez (voiced by the late, great Ricardo Montalbán), and the evil (and creepy looking) Lobe. The jokes were funny enough to leave the little kids laughing, and smart enough to look back on and still get a chuckle, albeit from a different perspective. The endless parodies of other cartoons, the running gags like the constant auditioning of sidekicks, and the random segments injected into the middle of episodes never left the audience bored.

What else would you expect from the creative minds of Steven Spielberg, Bruce Timm, and Paul Dini?

Thank you for commercializing the nerdy subculture that has defined a generation.

Sincerely,

People Like Me!

Fanboy Friday: “It Was Nice Knowing You” Hoodie

Friday, December 17th, 2010

This week’s Fanboy Friday pick pays homage to the extremely frigid temperatures and PLM’s favorite past time: Zombies!

The entire hoodie is littered with details that will make your blood curdle (in a good way). Bloody handprints near the pockets and cuts near the chest show off your battle scars of the undead apocalypse on the charcoal grey. If you look on the inside lining of the hood, your brains are splattered all over it! On the back, there’s a gaping slash showing some backbone…literally. Other little details like the bandaged bite mark on the sleeve and the blood-covered neckline do a great job of completing the overall design.

You can find this hoodie, as well as other miscellaneous nerdy things at thinkgeek.com!

Open Letter to Heat Miser & Snow Miser

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Dear Mr. & Mr. Miser,

Where did Mother Nature go wrong with you two? For years, the two of you have been at a standstill; hurling objects back and forth between mountain tops, singing the same song but with different words; but for what? Were the Miser brothers always this full of rivalry? Was there a moment in time that split the brotherly bond between you? Did Heat Miser melt your favorite snow-globe? Did Snowy freeze your bottle of warm milk?

Whatever the reason, you two have to wake up and smell the mistletoe. Even though you have different fathers, mommy dearest loves you the same (which why she left them both). Celebrate the things that make you unique, and don’t forget that blood is thicker than lava and ice.

Sincerely,

People Like Me!

Fanboy Friday: Zombie at Tiffany’s Shirt

Friday, December 10th, 2010

To keep the Undead theme we’ve had going around the office this week, our t-shirt spotlight is a subtle-yet-disturbing design from Threadless which pays homage to a classic film. The placement of the graphic on the side of the torso makes the design less in-your-face but without hiding it away on the side of the body. The drawing is very well done and detailed; emulating the iconic shot of Ms. Hepburn holding her cigarette. Only difference is, she looks like she just got one of those “chemical peels” we keep hearing people rave about. The artist has a great balance between falling off flesh and bare bone, giving the character are more decrepit look (if that’s even possible!). It looks like she’s trying to give you a seductive wink with whatever skin she has around her eye socket. And lets not forget the bullet hole.

Open Letter to Zombies

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Dear Zombies,

With last night being the season finale of Walking Dead (already!?) we here at People Like Me just HAD to write to you. With the success of Walking Dead and movies that have come out this year such as Death Island and I Spit On Your Rave, I think it’s safe to say that the dead are on the rise. But will the vampire craze stay dead? I think so. In fact I’m going to make the prediction that zombies will out-sell Justin Bieber’s new film. You’re much cuter than him anyway, you lovable flesh-eating vixens. You’re so adorable when you shuffle apathetically towards dinner. Let’s talk about it tonight. I love it when your eyeballs fall out when you’re nervous. Come over to our place, we’ll feed you.

Sincerely,
People Like Me!
